AES Vietnam presents gifts to poor households in Vietnam for the traditional Lunar New Year in 2021

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year in February 2021, AES Vietnam presented Tet gifts to a number of poor and near-poor households and students in the provinces of Binh Thuan and Quang Ninh. The gifts were presented in cooperation with the local People's Committees in the two provinces.

In Binh Thuan Province, each household received a gift set valued at VND500,000, which included basic commodities for the holiday season. Gift sets were presented to 52 poor households in Song Phan Commune (mostly from the Rai ethnic minority group), and 48 poor households in Son My Commune.

In Quang Ninh Province, AES Mong Duong, a subsidiary of AES Vietnam, presented gift sets to 59 vulnerable and disadvantaged households in Mong Duong Ward, as well as the communes of Cong Hoa and Cam Hai, and 112 students from Nguyen Trai and Mong Duong school. This is the 6th consecutive year AES Mong Duong has delivered these gifts to local communities in Quang Ninh Province.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. David Stone, President of AES Vietnam, said, “After nearly 15 years of operating in Vietnam, we fully understand the importance and meaning of Tet, which is the Lunar New Year in Vietnamese culture. With these gifts, we hope to offer a warmer and more meaningful festive period to the poor, so the traditional New Year can be celebrated in every household and no one is left behind.”

Mr. Hoang Tuy, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Son My Commune, Binh Thuan Province, said, “I would like to offer thanks for the warm-hearted gifts from AES Vietnam. I appreciate that the company works with us to visit, support and encourage poor households in the district ahead of the traditional Lunar New Year.”

The Tet gifts are part of AES Vietnam’s social impact program, which has been carried out since 2012.  A total of 135 initiatives have been implemented, focusing on four main pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure – making a long-lasting impact in improving the lives of more than 200,000 people in local communities in Vietnam.
